  • For training dates/times please look at our Calendar, as we may be at a competition or demo.

Foundation

Is for young dogs (12 months and over) and new and inexperienced dogs. This helps give them and the handlers experience in competition, where mistakes can be made and learnt from for the real racing. Usually run in netting so as to aid training. The racing can be just as close and exciting as the real thing, and just as much fun.

Wickford Waggin'tails flyball team has been set up by friends who have been involved in flyball for over 10 years and love the fast paced, team sport.  We are a small friendly team located in Essex who like to have fun training our dogs to compete at Flyball.

We train at Runwell Playing fields, Church end lane, Runwell,Wickford.

Once you and your dog get a taste for flyball, we are sure you will be hooked.  Please feel free to contact us for more details.

What is Flyball?

Flyball is a fun sport for your dog (any breed, any size) if your dog is fit enough it can play Flyball. Flyball is a team sport, from a squad of up to 6 you can select 4 dogs to run in a heat. It is a relay race, with 4 dogs and their owners in the team for the heat. The dogs race against another team in another lane, over 4 hurdles, retrieve a ball from the Box at the end of the lane and back over the 4 hurdles, then the next dog goes. The winning team is the first to get back all 4 dogs to complete without any faults. Flyball is the fastest growing dog sport in this country.  It is a world wide sport, with regular European Championships.

Open

Once your dog is old enough (over 18 months), had enough training and you feel ready, you will progress onto Open competitions.  These competitions are run without netting and faults, such as dropping the ball and not coming back over the hurdles, will mean your dog gets a fault and will have to re-run his leg once the other dogs are back.
